Our second day of cycling the Vietnam cycle challenge began with a morning of cycling through more remote villages. Here, we saw very simple lives and the happiest people I think I've ever seen. Everywhere we went children came rushing out to wave, say "hello" and high five us as we cycled by. We found ourselves riding along with the widest grins on our faces, giggling our way through their lives - their happines is truly infectious. (It is interesting that they even call the toilet "the happy room"!)
In the afternoon we all took the challenge of the Hai Van pass - up 580 metres to witness incredible views of the beaches below. As we cycled up, again we encountered the friendliness of the locals - EVERYONE who went by waved, smiled and shouted encouragement to us. It was very hot and just before the top Stephanie and I celebrated a small breeze - who would have thought we would welcome a headwind! At the top, we all basked in our own glory and felt our own sense of happiness for the day, the adventure, and for what we had achieved.
Having the (happy) time of our lives!
